Clasica is a traditionally created yarn and one of our favourites for its incredible colours and cosiness. It is soft, warm and honest, with a rustic beauty.
It has been hand-spun in a roving style from the purest Corridale Wool.

Manos Wool Clasica is hand dyed in large kettles to obtain the explosion of colours of space-dyed shades that  Manos is famous for.

Manos del Uruguay is a not for profit organisation. It was created in 1968 to provide rural women with jobs in their home towns. 47 years later, Manos are still committed to the same objective; to give economic, social and personal development opportunities to the women in Uruguay's countryside. This was acknowledged by the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO), by appointing Manos as a member in 2009. The WFTO trademark is a quality trademark that guarantees a relationship of commercial exchange based on dialog, transparency and respect, looking for a higher fairness in international trade, and which contributes to sustainable development, offering better commercial conditions, and guaranteeing the rights of small producers and vulnerable workers.

The artisans are organised in cooperatives that are located in small towns in Uruguay's countryside. With their jobs at Manos del Uruguay, the artisans are able to provide for their families and raise their children without having to emigrate to Montevideo's poor areas. Every day the spinning and dyeing work gets mixed up with the talk about their families, their concerns and joys, the stories of each of them gets tied to the thread in their hands. Each Manos skein has a tag with the name of the artisan who made it and the co-ops location. It's a way to connect the knitter and the artisan who created the yarn.

The fantastic colours of Manos have always been their trade mark. They combine research and experimentation with traditional techniques and 40 years of experience. It is an artisanal process with small dye lots made in pots heated by wood fire or gas. The colours are never completely solid, they have beautiful nuances and tone variations. To achieve the spectacular space dyed colours, they dye up to 6 times the same skein, to achieve the complexity of a true piece of art. After being dyed, the yarns are sun-dried in the co-ops back yard. Every skein is unique, there are no two skeins exactly the same.
