Fabulous colour depth and tone makes this yarn perfect for colour work. The colours were originally designed by Jamieson and Smith. Made from 100% Shetland wool collected from over 600 crofters on the Shetland Isles this is a truly British yarn. Traditionally used in the knitting of Fair Isle garments, the yarn is designed to create slightly felted floats on the wrong side. This also makes it perfect for steeking. Hard wearing, exceptional quality yarn. This is The Yarn for fair isle knitting especially as it comes in 25g balls. Keep an eye on this page as the number of colours we stock is ever increasing. One day we will have them all! (Mad inventor laugh).

Please note the numbers by the colours refer to Jamieson and Smith's numbers for easy ordering especially if using Kate Davies or Gudrun Johnstone's books. The colour names are mostly our own and are for descriptive purposes only.

This yarn can also be used in vintage patterns which call for "4ply yarn".
