Have you ever wanted to know about socks but were too afraid to ask? Does turning a heel turn you off? And just how do you knit toes? Join us for a hands on workshop and leave confident to tackle your first pair.


Techniques covered; knitting in the round, turning a heel, paired decreases, grafting (no sweat involved)



All materials are provided for this workshop which will demystify sock knitting. Basic knitting skills are required.Please ask about reduced rate when you book on all 3 of the Sox workshops.

Wednesday 6th September: Continental Knitting, 4-5pm, £10. A different way of holding your yarn which may help to reduce shoulder and neck tension. Smaller movements mean it is less tiring. May make fair isle knitting easier too. Please bring yarn and needles.

Thursday 7th September: Joy of Sox (Missionary), 10am-1pm, £45. As September 2nd. 

Thursday 14th September: Beginner’s Crochet, 2-3pm, £10. Please feel free to bring a project you wish to tackle.

Saturday 16th September: Continental Knitting, 4-5pm, £10. As Seprmeber 6th

Thursday 21st September: Joy of Sox (Reversed/ Toe Up), 10am-1pm, £45

The same format as The Joy of Sox, but this time working from the ground up. Join Becca for a hands on workshop knitting a mini Toe-up sock with an After-Thought Heel. 
Techniques covered; provisional cast-on; knitting in the round; paired increases and decreases; sewn cast off.
All materials included, as is enough tea and cake to keep you going.
Basic knitting skills required.

Tuesday 26th September: Beginning to End, 3-5pm, £25. There are many ways of casting on and casting off. Why? And what do you use different ones for? The ever-informative Becca will enlighten you. Please bring needles and yarn. 

Saturday 30th September: Needle Felting Fun, 4-6pm, £20

Thursday 5th October: Joy of Sox (Entwined/ two together), 10am-1pm, £45

Knitting two socks at the same time!? Come and learn how. Same format as the two previous ones and if you book on all three there is a discount. Basic knitting skills required and materials are provided.

There will also be workshops suitable for children during half-term.

Join us for a day of wool, friendship and cake.

There will be traders, demonstrations and workshops. Catering by Fat Rabbit. Bring your WIP, meet people and enjoy a day of woolly loveliness. De-clutter your stash by bringing something to sell at the Orphan Lamb Table (please only bring clean saleable wool/fleece which is clearly labelled with your name and the amount you would like for it. Remember to collect your money or stash at the end of the day)


Please note all workshops must be booked in advance as places are strictly limited and a place will only be reserved on receipt of a deposit. All workshops are held in the shop on Gallery Level, Market Hall, Shrewsbury, SY1 1HQ, unless otherwise specified.

We offer three levels of workshops;

a dip your toe in the water type or learn a little technique, (casting on/off, changing colour, basic cables, crochet bunting, pattern reading for the bewildered)

learn the basics of a new thing (Knitting Chapters 1 & 2, Beginners Crochet, nal binding, needle felting, an introduction to the spindle, fair isle techniques, dorset buttons, peg loom, pattern adaptation)

or a full-on 4 hour learn something serious all the way through sort (Joy of Sox; traditional and reversed,  Get Your Steek on, take it all the way spinning, beaded jewellery)
