This is an extra special yarn. It combines the spinning expertise of West Yorkshire Spinners with the decades of experience of Jamieson and Smith Woolbrokers. Jamieson and Smith are the main buyer of Shetland Isands wool and handle over 80% of the local wool clip. This yarn not only helps to support the spinning and dyeing traditions of Yorkshire but also helps to sustain the traditions and economy of the Shetland Isles.
Shetland Island Wool is a fibre celebrated for its fineness, warmth and strength. It is natural and sustainable, helping to bond people and places in a unique way, preserving livelihoods and age old traditions. Crofting is integral to the landscape, cultural heritage and social economy of the Shetland Islands. The high levels of crimp and wave in Shetland fleece make it ideal for a hand knitting yarn. It is the harshness of the climate that gives this ancient breed a world renowned fleece.
The Croft has a soft and silky handle that retains a lot of durability. The yarn is smooth and flows over your needles excellently giving real pleasure to the speed this squooshy aran weight yarn knits (or crochets) up. Finished garments retain the softness and are cosy and so very huggable. Great pattern support too.
100gm hanks give you 166 metres (182 yards) of Shetland pleasure
