All yarn fiddlers must at some point find a hole that needs to be fixed.
These workshops will teach you basic mends and how to make them as invisible or visible as your heart desires.
Mending with Stitches covers:- what materials to use, patching, hemming, dealing with lost buttons and burst seams, embellishing with simple embroidery and applique.
Mending with Darning covers:- the basic woven darn, Swiss darning, the stocking web darn, and discuss invisibility vs visible mending, how to choose the right threads for the job. Also included is written information on how to cope with a moth attack, and how to protect your textiles from this dread beast.
Please bring a basic sewing kit (needles, threads, anything else that feels like it might be useful) and items to mend (or fabric pieces to practice the techniques on). An array of patching fabrics and threads will be available to use.
Very Serious About Mending - a whole day of mending and the tools as well! Attend both Mending with Stitches and Mending with Darning on the same day, and take away your own Mender's Tool Kit.
These are some of our workshops that can earn you one of our wonderful proficiency badges. Complete the workshop, and later on bring in something you repaired as a result and you'll be presented with one of these.
