Michael Pearson's Traditional Knitting

After visiting the remote fishing villages of Scotland and England, Michael Pearson compiled this extensive record of unique, centuries-old patterns. His sources include oral traditions, documents, family albums, and photos. Pearson combines a social history of the villages and the living history of these crafts with detailed patterns and practical instructions for knitters. This is a part social history and part knitting pattern book. Michael writes with a real love and respect for knitting and traditional knitters. It is full of photographs, some of which are well known (the Prince of Wales in That Fair Isle jumper, woman knitting in Stornoway carrying peat skep) and others that I haven't seen anywhere else. It is an engaging and fascinating book and the charts and patterns let you recreate a modern piece of history.
